Family Bonding Time

For me, it's going to Fort Collins not even thirty minutes after school gets out for Christmas Break to see my brother and his girlfriend, and to bring him home. It's my other brother coming home around midnight, and seeing him for maybe two minutes the next morning. It's sitting in a car, goofing off like five-year-olds because we haven't seen each other in so long, and we're filled with such giddiness. It's driving home in terrible snowy weather, but still making it home, and in one piece. It's waking up late in the day and putting up Christmas decorations all over the house, three days before Christmas (we never actually got around to decorating the tree). It's sitting on a couch in the basement watching my brother play The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time all day just because I can. It's listening to Christmas music, eating clementines, watching American Horror Story at 10:00 pm. It's watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 after THAT. And it's going to bed late at night, with a huge smile on my face.

How I love the Holidays. :)

Alas, We've Made a Round Trip

As some of you may know, I have had this blog now, for about a year. And I would just like to take a moment to say: "What a year it has been..." There have been ups and downs, lefts and rights...but we've all made it through (I hope.) And it's about time for those New Year Resolutions again.

However, before I get into that, I would like to say "thanks." Without viewers, followers, etc. etc. I would not be blogging today. I thoroughly enjoy the feedback I receive from my viewers, and the encouragement that I get from my friends, family members, etc. etc.
I am being completely honest when I say I never expected to make it to a thousand views, and Lo and behold, the views have been there and beyond. So again, thank you. It wouldn't be possible without you, after all.

Anywhoo...Christmas is in three days (almost two), and it's...exciting I suppose. :P I've gotten to that age when it doesn't really seem to be as...magical, as it once did. Although I do say I can't wait until I can be Santy Claus for my own children...though that can wait. For now.
It's always fun to be able to reunite with the family, decorate the house, the tree, make those last-minute shopping trips to the mall for presents, make cookies, and eat the Christmas 'feast' with the family. They're all good times. And it's always what I look forward to on Christmas. Because those are always the most memorable moments. It's not always the gifts (how cliche, right?). But I'm serious. The things I remember about all my Christmases were staying up really late, anticipating what could appear, or what I might hear. It was waking up at the crack of dawn and then opening the presents in my stocking by my bed, but first discussing with my sister what she got. Then, it's waking up our parents and eating cinammon roles. It's fighting over who gets to wear the Santa hat and pass out all the presents. It's watching A Christmas Story, and hanging out with the family.
There are Christmases, where I'm telling friends what I got, but I can't remember the half of things that were wrapped under the tree, because to me, it's not about the presents. They're nice, yes. They're wonderful. But the best memories, are from the feelings I recieved with all the Christmas 'rituals' I suppose you could call them, but they were nothing planned.
And for me, that's what it will always be about. I suppose when I was younger, it really was about the gifts...but now that I'm older and don't really mind as much about what I should get, I can see clearly that it's not about presents.

We live in such a material world. Sometimes it sickens me. But I know there's nothing I can do to change it. There's nothing anyone could ever do to change it, really. But it's always good to look back on those moments that you love, and hold them close to your heart, rather then get sucked into what people expect you to feel, or how people expect you to react during the Holiday Season. Just enjoy your time with your family, because it really is a special time...

Now how about those New Year Resolutions?

Mine have got to be... 1. Enjoy life- look to the positive things rather than the negative. 2. Relax- Just sit down from time to time and take a few deep breaths before moving on to the next thing. I get so overwhelmed sometimes that I scare myself. 3. Finish at least 10 books- Heck, I may have done that this year, but books are good and I don't want to stop reading. That's probably about all I can think of for myself. But, what about you? What are your New Year Resolutions?

Hectic

Have you ever had a time where everything seems to all be happening at the same time? I'm sure you have... I guess the better question would be ask who hasn't...
Anyway, that's this week for me...but it's not only that, I'm also having a hard time retaining all the information of what's happening so I'm constantly going back and forth between what I'm currently doing, and what needs to be done. It's confusing. And it's mentally draining. And I'm exhausted as it is...I just need a moment to breathe...
It seems like everything this week is consuming me, and that I don't seem to have time to do anything. But the reason I'm not doing anything is because I'm doing everything...

It's a Huge Load

I've been seeing plenty of posts from all the Seniors about College, and how they're nervous to start this new chapter in their lives. It's just...good to know I'm not the only one.
I'm scared of leaving Highschool, a comfortable place that I've been for four years. I'm not ready to make my way to a College, where I won't know most of the people, where I'll be living by myself (or with a dorm buddy!), where I'll be taking classes I've never even heard of, where I'll be learning from professors I've never met in my life, where I'll have to take care of myself...
I'm scared of leaving my friends behind. I'm scared of losing all of the people I love, I'm scared of letting things go that I've been holding on to, to make room for my new life, I'm scared of never seeing my friends from Highschool again, I'm scared of meeting new people, I'm scared of maybe not knowing myself well enough to hang out with people that won't treat me as well as my friends do now.
I'm scared of learning new things. I'm scared of letting go of the comforts of four basic classes and moving on to a broader view of things. I'm scared of learning things I've never learned before, I'm scared of taking classes I've never even heard of before, I'm scared of going into College and taking all the classes that I hate or that they won't be as fun as I expected. I'm scared of graduating College and not having anywhere to go, anywhere to live, anything to learn, anywhere to work, etc.
I'm scared of eventually leaving my family behind. I'm scared of leaving my home and living by myself, I'm scared of not seeing my family every day to lean on for support and comfort when I need it the most, I'm scared of screwing things up and not having any idea how to fix it, and I'm scared of living on my own, when the time comes.
I'm also scared that I won't fit in, anywhere. Right now, I don't have many friends. I know it's mainly because they're the same four people I've known my whole school career, but it's still frightening to think that I could be stuck on my own, that I might not get along with my dormmate, that I'll lose all my friends that I used to have, and I won't be able to make any new ones. I mean, I know I'm kind of over-thinking things...but it's what I do best.

I haven't applied to any Colleges. Mainly because I'm lazy, but I'm also scared that I'll get rejected, and that I won't have a College to go to in the first place. I mean, there has to be at least ONE College that'l accept me, right? I'm scared about money. I've never worked a day in my life, and it's because I have SO much going on, but I'm nervous about getting a job this summer, and having enough to support myself...
I'm scared of not knowing what I want to do with my life.

I'm scared of leaving all of my memories behind.

I'm scared of not being everything that I could potentially be.

I'm scared of being dragged down and taken to a party, where I'll get addicted to something.

I'm scared.

I'm really scared.

On My Mind

Why do people always have a hard time accepting other people, or with being accepted themselves?

It's the Little Things

I love days like today. Fantastic, never-ending days that seem to take forever, but you don't care because everything seems to be 'in place' and good. Today was good. It's like a day that I can sit down on the couch at home, take a deep breath, smile, look back on the day and say, "Yeah, today was good. Today was really good." But days like today, they don't come very often. This is the first time I've had a really exciting, good day, in an excruciatingly long amount of time. But hey, eventually it came, and I enjoyed every second of it.
Maybe that's why I enjoy doing things like the musical, because I get days like today a lot more often. It's the social interaction between other people that we crave...and on days like today, that's exactly what I got. At the same time, I felt good about myself, I felt proud of things I had achieved, and I didn't want it to end. But, of course, it has to....
I'm not sure where exactly I'm going with this, but my fingers are moving and thoughts are moving through my fingertips, and this is what's coming out.

Sometimes, I really love people. Sometimes, I really love what people do. Sometimes, I really love what I do with people. Today was a day where I could sit back, relax, and enjoy every second because everything seemed to be going my way.
But why can't every day be like this? Why can't every day be fun and exciting and a great social experience? Blah. I wish. I so wish.
There are some people that say things like "If you believe you're going to have a good day, then you're going to have a good day!" But...I don't really think that's the case. Cause I've tried, believing that it was going to be a great day, truly believing, and it could end up anything but.

You know what I did last night? I read my Bible. It's strange...I said in my sermon, that I wrote awhile ago, that reading the Bible is good meditation time and stuff...and it is, but I also mentioned how it just made me feel better about myself and the things going on around me in general? Well...here's my evidence...at least as much evidence as I could grasp from this.
I have been stuck in strange emotions for the longest time, kind of drifting away from everything I once held on to, not really sure of what to think about current situations, or what emotions were coursing throughout me...everything has seemed meshed up and confused, and I haven't been willing to do anything. Especially not anything that makes me uncomfortable.
But last night I read the Bible, and this morning, I felt great. This day has been fantastic, and I've had this feeling of happiness cling to me all day. I can't explain it. So, that's what I believe...and isn't it just a coincidence that I mentioned earlier that the Bible makes me feel better in general? It's just...so insane to think about.

I feel like I'm ready to do something that I haven't ever really done before, too. I just hope that when the moment comes, I don't chicken out on whatever it is. I can't explain that, either. But I feel like something is coming, and that it's coming fast.
I'm motivated right now, and I'm not entirely sure what it is that I'm supposed to be blogging about, but hey, I know that right now, I really want to blog, so that's what I'm doing?
I suppose I could start by discusses what truly annoys me lately, because it is quite a bit, and after all, this is a blog about my thoughts. Well...where to start? I suppose we can begin with Facebook. I'm not the only one that sees statuses just striving for attention, right? Like when people say things like, "I've had such a hard life lately! My emotions are just ALL over the place and my heart says YES but my head says NO and even if I DID choose 'yes' then I would be heartbroken anyway because the one that I love I have no chance with/doesn't love me back and I know it for a fact!!!!!!!!!" It really bugs me when they say things like that, nd spell thngs lik dis. Then it's just not even worth reading. Okay, sure, I can understand how that could be a difficult situation, but I find it, first of all, extremely surprising how much people are fawning over other people, and acting like their lives are completely over because they can't have what they want. And second of all, we're also in highschool...it's very unlikely we'll find our 'true love' at this time in  our lives, so it just becomes obnoxious to hear everyone complaining about petty issues all the time.
I have also found annoying, since highschool started, how many surprisingly ridiculous and rude people are. And yes, I understand that this is probably something that I'm going have to deal with for the rest of my life. But there are teachers there specifically there, getting paid, to teach us and help us to learn. The least you could do for them is show them some respect. I also find it highly irritating, or have in the past anyway, to be part of an honors or AP class, and have to be learning in a class with some of the most immature people. It's like they're just there to get the weighted grade, and I'm stuck there ACTUALLY trying to put in a effort and learn something from all of it...what's even worse though, is when they get a higher grade than me, when they completely guess on work or tests, and I use ALL my free-time to study my butt off for something that someone easily got, half-assed. ...people also annoy me in general.
It seems like these days, nobody has anything important to say anymore. I mean, yes, I have decent conversations with wonderful people, but most of the time, all I hear about from people around me is "Drama drama drama!!!" Seriously, it's highschool...we were supposed to move on from that crap like, four years ago guys. Maybe the Freshman have just been getting louder or something. I can't wait to graduate and go on to College...but wait! Drama doesn't end there?! Of course not! Because people can't be mature.
I also find it annoying sometimes when people don't realize I'm as old as I really am. Which, seems like a stupid thing to be annoyed by but it's not...not to me anyway. People never realize that I'm a Senior, they don't realize that I can drive, that I'm smart, that I'm going on to College...that I can be a leader...I just...feel like people take me for granted, or disregard me completely...and maybe it has nothing to do with my age but it's really getting on my nerves.
Another thing that annoys me? How much, and how easily I blush. It's like, if someone looks at me, it happens. Which, of course, is embarassing so I blush more. Am I really lacking in self-confidence so much, that I can't talk to anyone without blushing? I mean really...it's embarassing...my whole face gets so red.
Well, now that I've gotten some of that off of my chest...how about I talk about things that I love? I love my family. Period. They've always been there for me. They know how to cheer me up when I'm down, they know how to make me laugh, how to bug the complete crap out of me, how to have fun. My family is everything to me.
I also love my friends. What a cliche thing to say, right? But that's just exactly it. Who doesn't love their friends? They're great for talking to when times are extremely tough and seemingly impossible. They're always reliable, and they've got your back. And it's so comforting to know they're like your safety net, and you can tell them anything and everything.
This will sound weird, but I love making jewelry. I'm taking the class for the first time this year and it helps me to relieve so much stress that has been building up in me, and just helps me to relax. It's completely wonderful, and satisfying to see the piece once it's finished because you know that it was made by you alone, and that it's beautiful.
And, of course, I love blogging/writing. There's so much that builds up in my mind, and eventually it starts to drag me down, and I have to release it somehow. Well, I find that release through blogging...and I'm really happy I did, because blogging is so much easier than writing all of this out by hand. That would just be a pain.
Of course, another thing I love is God. I can't say I'm putting in my best efforts in that area right now. And I know I shouldn't have any excuses for that...but I do have excuses, and believe me when I say that I use them. My heart is heavy right now and I need a ton of release. There's a retreat coming up, and I'll be sure to blog about it, because it has got to be better than last year's was.
I'm still not entirely sure why I wrote this blog, but it was good to talk...even though I'm not actually saying things out loud.
And I guess you know a little more about what goes through my mind when I'm getting really stressed out. :D

CrossTraining Sermon

The Holy Spirit has been described to me as several different things. I've heard it described as water, poured down on those encountering God. Others might describe it as being air, flowing through us whenever we make that connection with God. But I think the explanation that makes the most sense to me, is that the Holy Spirit is like fire. I like that explanation because when you experience a connection with God, it's like nothing else that you've ever experienced, and something you've never known before. Not only that, but it's different every time; like a flame changes every second you're gazing at it.

With this flame, or this, connection with God, comes pure, everlasting joy and Agape. Now, I searched the word Agape, for your conveniences, and I received several different results. First, I got: Agape: Mouth wide open as in complete surprise or wonder. The second result I got for Agape was: Unending love (Greek translated word) What I find to be humorous though, is that God gives us  this unending, everlasting, completely true love and all we can do sometimes is stand back and say, "Woah! You love me that much?!" So, I find both definitions of the word to be completely appropriate. Not only do you find joy and love from God when a connection is made, but there's comfort there, too. Just like a nice toasty fire can comfort a family on a cold winter's night. It's just reassuring.

It's these experiences, and more, that we can gain from connecting with God that makes me like the fact that people can worship God in different ways. For example, maybe people prefer the praise band, or the choir, or singing from a hymnal, but whatever it is, connect with God. That's the whole reason we do it in the first place! Why take the focus from Him? The point is, there are many different ways to get into that place, and it can even be more than one. Worship; at your church, at youthgroup, at home, at Crosstraining, pray to God and talk about your day, ask for help, repent from sins, pray about others that need help, and completely give yourself up to God (which, I definitely believe can be done more than once).

I remember a really long time ago that Carolyn was talking about how people fall into a habit of praising God, and getting into a connection with Him, and then once things get really hard, and you get really busy, that connection starts to fall apart because you begin to focus on other things...yet, you can return to things like retreats, or church, or youthgroup, or crosstraining, or even do it on your own time, and reclaim that connection with God. It doesn't have to be a one-time deal. You can do it if you're feeling lost, and want to completely rely on God...it's happened to me before...Well, I've come to realize that gaining a connection with God is good for several things. It's a great reflecting period, a great time to catch up with God or do some Bible Study for yourself, it's really relaxing, and I noticed that whenever I do try to connect with God, I feel more at peace with myself throughout the day, less stressed. I kid you not. And don't get me wrong, all this personal experience with God is great. It's amazing. It's wonderful to learn so much about yourself and the trials that you're going through, and be able to pray to God...but I don't think that God completely intends for us to spend all of our free-time for personal gain. Just stop and think, what about all the other people in the world that haven't gotten to experience God? What about all the other people in the world who haven't been able to make that connection? What about all the other people in the world who don't even know who God is? What about them?

I heard something, quite awhile ago now, that went along the lines of, "Experience an encounter with God, relish in that encounter with God, and then spread that encounter to others." We can't just keep God to ourselves. We can't contain God in a box to bring out at our convenient times, and we can't wear him like a jacket, so He only keeps ourselves warm...that box needs to be wrapped and given to someone else that needs it. That jacket, needs to be taken off, and offered to someone else that's cold. If we spread God around, other people can have that chance to experience Him as well, or at least get to understand what they could potentially experience.

On my last middle school mission trip, the youth group went to Wyoming had a certain theme to it that's stuck with me for a really long time. You may have seen the shirts that we wear that are blue, with a yellow submarine on it. Well, as it turns out, the theme of that trip was, "Faith without works is like a screen door on a submarine." Just, think about that for a moment...if a submarine were to have a screen door, instead of a nice solid, sturdy, metal one, it would sink...never to return to the surface of the water. That's just like our Faith with God. If we don't go out to work with our Faith, and help others, or spread our Faith to those in need of it, our own Faith will sink, never to return to the surface. Now, I know that Pastor Handi-Jo has been doing a sermon on this sort of thing for the past few weeks, saying that we need to get out into the world and actually do stuff. Well, she's right. But how many of you are actually going to go out and get something done? This has to start somewhere...and it can only start with you. And it can only start with the decisions that you choose to make. Nobody else is stopping you. And nobody else is going to do it for you.

You know, I've thought about this a lot...and I've come to realize that the only way of getting things accomplished is definitely to step out of our comfort zones. Which, of course, nobody wants to do...who would want to make themselves feel uncomfortable? Not me. Heck no. But I've come to realize that it has to be done...if we want to get anywhere. I've got a great example. I'm going to college soon: I have no clue where I want to go, I have no idea what I want to do. I remember Bryan's sermon a few weeks ago in church and he was saying that no matter what you end up doing in life, God will use it to get us to be where He needs us to be...and that, really meant something to me. I'm taking this really uncomfortable risk of going to college, to take a major that I don't even know I want to take. But I'm going to do it, because it is uncomfortable for me, and I know that God has a plan for my life already, and I just need to trust him. By stepping out of our comfort zones, I believe we are making ourselves vulnerable for Him to grab hold of us, and use us how He wills. Because I believe that when we step out of our comfort zones, we have no choice but to rely completely on God, because He seems to know what He's doing. He has everything under control. God called fishermen to be men of God, and the only way they could get there, was to step out of their comfort zones, and leave everything behind to rely completely on God.

And what completely amazes me...is that God wants to help everyone...especially the poor, the broken, the hurting, the lost, the unsure, and I think every single person can fit into a category of that sort. There's a verse that I absolutely love and it's Mark 2:16-17: When some of the legal experts from among the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples, "Why is he eating with sinners and tax collectors?" When Jesus heard it , he said to them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn't come to call the righteous people, but sinners." (common english bible) Does everyone understand this? God isn't calling perfect people to him, he's calling those that sin, those that have trials, those that need help...

And while we're on the topic of trials, I just have to say, that they're a beautiful thing. They're not designed to tear people down, or put people through endurable amounts of pain...but they exist in order for us to grow, to learn, to do better, to make mistakes and move on, to forgive and forget, to become stronger as people and learn how to rely more on God. James 1:2-7 expresses this perfectly: My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. After all, you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let this endurance complete its work so that you may be fully mature, complete, and lacking of nothing. But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask. Whoever asks shouldn't hesitate. They should ask in faith, without doubting. Whoever doubts is like the surf of the sea, tossed and turned by the wind. People like that should never imagine that they will receive anything from the Lord. (common english version) Really, it's a complete summary of everything that I've recently said. Though you may face trials, if you completely rely on Him, you'll make it through...

Now, back to the first topic of discussion here... fire. God is like a flame. He builds up in us, kindling something that we've never felt/experienced before, but we shouldn't keep it to ourselves. It's meant as something to be spread on to other people. Broken wood, dry wood, catches quickly when a fire makes its way toward it. Just like broken people, people who are lacking God, will catch quickly with the flame of the Holy Spirit when we spread it to them. Though, the only way to achieve any of this, is to step out of our comfort zones, and take a risk that we may not be willing to take...but God knows whatever we can and cannot handle...whether we think we can or cannot handle it. And it may lead to trials...but we can learn from the trials that we encounter so we become stronger, filled with knowledge, braver, for the next trial that passes our way.

So spread that flame, to everyone you know. Because when people see you, they should not only see you, but the Spirit of God as well.

You Are Remembered

Oh God, our hope and refuge, in our distress we come quickly to you. Shock and horror of that tragic day have subsided, replaced now with an emptiness, a longing for an innocence lost.
We come remembering those who lost their lives in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
We are mindful of the sacrifice of public servants who demonstrated the greatest love of all by laying down their lives for friends. We commit their souls to your eternal care and celebrate their gifts to a fallen humanity.
We come remembering and we come in hope, not in ourselves, but in you.
As foundations we once thought secure have been shaken, we are reminded of the illusion of security.
In commemorating this tragedy, we give you thanks for your presence in our time of need and we seek to worship you in Spirit and in truth, our guide and our guardian. Amen.

Words Have Impact

I just got done reading a blog post by David Fournier and it described everything that I have been currently thinking.
Here's the link to the post. His blog is extremely good, if you have time to read it.
Weapons of Mass Destruction...

There have been a lot of things going on lately that many people have never experienced before...and I won't go into detail but just think about what is being said. I mean, really, people listen to what you say to them. I know I listen to what people say to me, and when they're mean to me, it sticks, whether I want it to or not...it sticks to me like a leech and I refer back to it when someone else says something mean to me. I can't be the only one who does this...

There has been a "re-copy" status going around on Facebook:
"The Girl you just called fat? She is overdosing on diet pills. The Girl you just called ugly? She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her.The Boy you just tripped? He is abused enough at home. See that man with the ugly scars? He fought for our country. That guy you just made fun of for crying? His mother is dying. Put this on your status for an hour, if you are against bullying. You never know what its like until you walk a mile in their shoes."
I mean, really. Nobody knows what is going on in other people's lives...even if we're joking...it still sticks...

There's also a song I listened to recently by Kristian Stanfill called Like a Lion and the beginning part of it goes:
"Let love explode and bring the dead to life. A love so bold to see a revolution, somehow."
And I believe that's exactly what needs to happen; love needs to be spread around to anyone and everyone (even if it may seem like they don't deserve it). Because everyone has got that 'something' going on in their lives that's bringing them down, but we can change that, by showing them that not all people are bad, and not everything is going to suck...

I have some friends who got to have the experience of going to Africa this summer, and though I didn't go, some of the stuff they have been telling me that they learned, is starting to rub off on me. I know it's not the same thing as going there and actually experiencing it the way that they did, but at least they're spreading what they learned to those around them, so that they can have an idea of what it was like.
Anyway, they both told me that while they were there, they felt loved; and not just "I love you!" but really loved. They said they were loved 'without the words having to be said.' That people there would share everything they owned with you, even if it wasn't much, that they would share their deepest stories with you, even though it might mean judgement, and that they truly care for each other so much, that they don't necessarily have to say "I love you" because they already know. (One of my friend's blogs on the subject: A way to say it, without speaking and another blog on the subject of Africa: Not Just a Backup and both of their blogs/experiences are fantastic things to read about)

The U.S. is so full of material items...and sure, yeah, things like iPhones and iPods and TVs and XBOXs and stuff are fun to have. But I find it astounding that people in Africa, who may have nothing, can still have everything. Some people don't even know what it feels like to be loved, and it's because of the way they're treated by us. The only way they can experience that love is if we can show them what it's like to love, and be loved in return...
I just find it absolutely amazing, mind-blowing, that there are people there living in poverty, with nothing to hold on to, but love. And I really wish that people here could live that same way. I'm sure maybe there are a few of us that will start that way: we'll love everyone, give compliments, share our feelings of hope and stories of God, but it won't last...because we all get distracted by everything that's going on around us...We get distracted, because we live in a world so full of materials that something as simple as 'love' doesn't seem to involve us anymore...

I say we change that. Let's start a revolution...let's spread the love. It has to start somewhere, and it can only start with you.

Creative Container

God made the universe. He made the animals, the people, the plants, feelings, the landscapes that we see every day, the plants that we walk on every morning on our way to school, every planet: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, the Milky Way...so...He's obviously bigger than everything that He's created. He's bigger than any human could ever comprehend. To Him, we're just miniscule little ants on a tiny ball that he created. But yet, He cares for us?
My dad said something about a week ago and I decided to write a blog about it. "They're trying to fit God into a box, and it's not working." Well, first of all, if anyone were to 'fit God inside of a box,' it would have to be a huge box, and seeing as we don't really have a box that big, it shouldn't be possible. Yet, people try to store God away inside of their little 'box' all the time; keeping Him for themselves, or their family, just in storage long enough to pull Him out on Sunday and praise Him a little bit, and then put Him away again. I have to ask, though...what is the point of that? God is there, because He wants you to live your life daily with Him, and through Him. He doesn't want to be stored away, put on a dusty shelf, in a cramped little container, just to be pulled out for your convenience. No. God needs to live by your side, not stored away somewhere for safe-keeping. He needs to be shown to the world, so that people can know the miracles that God works. This whole 'Christianity' thing, isn't supposed to be comfortable for you. This whole process is supposed to take you beyond your limits, to experience new things, to go new places, meet new people, and spread that love that God so freely gives. But that obviously can't be done, if he's stored up somewhere. Nothing can be accomplished if you keep to your comfort zone, and hide yourself from the things that God is pushing you to do. The same things can't be done to achieve anything...we have to reach out and make those things happen. They don't just 'magically' happen. We have to enforce it, and we can't do it without God's help. We can't comfortably place Him away for our conveniences when there are people out there who have never experienced God's unconditional love before. We can't comfortably place Him away for our conveniences when people need to hear about, and witness, the fantastic, unexplainable things that God can do for people...it's not right to hog God, and place Him where we know other's can't find Him from us...
I was reading the chapter of Mark in the Bible this morning...and these verses stuck out to me...
Mark 1:40-41 A man with a skin disease apprached Jesus, fell to his knees and begged, "If you want, you can make me clean."
Incensed (filled with compassion), Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, "I do want to. Be clean."
God wants to heal people, He wants people to get better. And the only way of that happening...is for us to work through God's will, and have it be done, to heal those who are hurting, or sick.

Mark 2:16-17 When some of the legal experts from among the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collecters, they asked his disciples, "Why is he eating with sinners and tax collecters?"
When Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn't come to call righteous people, but sinners."
Mark 3:23-29 When Jesus called them together he spoke to them in a parable: "How can Satan throw Satan out? A kingdom involved in civil war will collapse. And a house torn apart by divisions will collapse. If Satan rebels against himself and is divided, then he can't endure. He's done for. No one gets into the house of a strong person and steals anything without first tying up the strong person. Only then can the house be burglarized. I assure you that human beings will be forgiven for everything, for all sins and insults of every kind...

WHAT WOULD YOU DO...
if God had a call for your life that seemed to be totally outrageous to you? If it was what YOU were meant to do...would you do it? Would you do it because you know it's what God would want you to do, or would you do it because you knew you couldn't do it alone; that you would need God to help you?
How would you pull yourself to do it? Would you just do it because you know it's right, or would you have to take a giant leap of faith to get there?
Maybe you've already been through this. Maybe you've already had to make the choice between something YOU thought was right and something that GOD thought was right...well, what did you choose? Did you choose what YOU wanted to do because it was the 'easy' choice, or did you choose what GOD wanted you to do because it was the 'hard' choice?

LET'S HOPE WE NEVER HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE, SAY GOODBYE
Let me just start off by apologizing for the fact that I haven't blogged since Mother's Day. Summer came and I got a little...distracted. I've been finding time for myself to just, relax, and enjoy my summer. And I've also been vacationing here and there, so, I've been a little busy. But not to worry, I have a blog. :)

Seeing as no inspiration has really sprung on me for awhile, my sister suggested that I write an entry about her, and I thought, why not just write an entry about my whole family? So I suppose that's what I'll do.
Let me just start by saying that I really do feel bad for people who claim to hate their family. To me, my family is my whole world. I mean, they know what I love, they know what I hate, I can trust them with anyting I confess to them, and they can trust me in return. My family is very dear to my heart and I really wish that other people could experience the same things that I experience with my family, because sometimes they're the best friends that I have.

MYSTERIOUS FUTURE
Jeremiah 29:11~ "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I have struggled (and mind you, I'm still struggling) for a ridiculous amount of time in figuring out what I want to do with my life. This verse always comforts me. To know that He has my life planned out for me already. That He knows what I'm going to do, what He wants me to do...the hard part is just figuring it out...
I keep switching between plenty of different ideas, but none of them seem to stick. How do I know which one is the RIGHT one? How do I know it's the thing that I'm meant to do for the rest of my life? I don't. In order to figure that out, I need to talk to God, and figure out what He wants for me.
For me, that's really challenging. I've always had most everything planned out for myself, and to just give myself up to God, and have Him lead me in the right direction is really something that is hard to do.

STARGAZING
When I look up at the night sky that surrounds me on a clear, winter night, it's as if nothing around me exists. The beauty that God created spreads across the sky, dazzling on-lookers with complete amazement and wonder. It's amazing that God could do so much for us. With a wave of his hand, billions and billions, and billions of stars and planets and constellations were made. They're there to gaze upon, to explore, to wonder about...

This was just for funzies. I'm probably not going to expand on these ideas anymore because for half of them...I don't even know where they were headed.
But maybe...I can get some inspiration or something. I'm really hoping that it'll kick into gear once school starts and my mind starts working again...but until then, enjoy!

And Something Clicked in My Mind.

I CAN'T BLAME MYSELF FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S SINS.
Thank you Sterling, for making my mind click when you said this.

I realize it's what I've been facing for months. And I know I'd been told by other people, what he does isn't my problem, because I'm not the one doing it, and I can't control what he does...but he was still doing it...and I continued to blame myself, because I was supposed to be his friend...I was supposed to protect him from things like that...

But I know it's in the past now, and I've given it up. I can't linger on what's been done, but what can or will be done. Maybe I couldn't stop him from making those decisions for himself, but I can pray for him. I tried to tell him about Christ, and he wouldn't go for it. But I can still pray for him. And right now, I think that's all I can do. Because he's the one that makes the decisions in his life. He's the one controlling it, not me. And it's for him to decide what he thinks is best for himself. Not me. I can't change what he's done, or doing. But I can hope. And I can hope for the best. Because through God, anything is possible.

Effort

So, I'm in Marching Band. (Marching BAYund!) And we are currently working our butts off at Band Camp, like we do every summer before school starts, and it's a lot of hard work. We go through the same process every day from 8AM-4PM (with an hour for lunch): Stretch, Basics Block, learning/reviewing drill, lunch, music sectionals, and then putting everything together on the field. It's a routine system. And it takes effort. Lots and lots of effort. Effort and determination. I mean really, about everyone there wakes up around 6:30 in the morning, to march on the hard hot black-top that's our marching field. We wake up early, to start early; to march on the hard ground for about six hours a day, getting sunburned from standing outside (I could literally feel the heat coming off the blacktop through my shoes), becoming exhausted from working so hard, possibly getting stung by bees buzzing around, gaining hard-earned muscles from so much marching, and being pushed by everyone to give it our all.

All of it takes effort. Lots and lots of effort. The only way to make progress is if you WANT to make progress, which, most of us do, so we put in the effort and hard work to make that progress.

I got to thinking about that kind of thing today, and how it matches up with the way things should be with God. I mean, if you want to build a relationship with Him, it takes effort. Hard-earned work. God reaches out to us, but we're the only ones that can make the connection with Him by reaching out to Him, too. He's always there for us, and we have to be there for Him too. It's a two-way relationship. Otherwise, it would be like talking to someone's back. Like God is reaching out for us, but we aren't making the effort to reach back to Him. In order to connect with Him, we need that effort in there. Time has to be put in to talk to God, to learn from God, to be with God. He can't do all the work for you; that doesn't benefit you.

And sure, it takes a lot of hard work to reach Him sometimes, but you have to remember that He's always reaching out for you in return. He has the effort to call on you; all you have to do is answer.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord .
They rejoice in your name all day long;
they exult in your righteousness.
Psalm 89:14-16

MORE THAN

Recently, I just got back from a United Methodist Conference called Youth 2011, and I've gotta say, it was pretty awesome. :) I mean, I've been to conferences and such before like Planet Wisdom and Revolve Tour, but I'd never been to a gathering with other Methodists. The theme of the event was that God is More Than anything and everything.
He is More Than This:
Matthew 28:18-20 says: Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: "God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age." (The Message)
He is More Than Me:
1John 4:4-6 says: My dear children, you come from God and belong to God. You have already won a big victory over those false teachers, for the Spirit in you is far stronger than anything in the world. These people belong to the Christ-denying world. They talk the world's language and the world eats it up. But we come from God and belong to God. Anyone who knows God understands us and listens. The person who has nothing to do with God will, of course, not listen to us. This is another test for telling the Spirit of Truth from the spirit of deception. (The Message)
He is More Than We Know:
Ephesians 3:20 says: God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. (The Message)

Those are just a few of the things that were touched upon at the conference in California. We had spectacular speakers telling us things like: No matter what we do, what has been done, what we're feeling, or what WILL be done, God is always there for us, we just need to go to Him.
And another thing, that I really think hit home with a lot of kids there was: Scars shouldn't be a sign of a past, but proof that you've been healed.
I really think, in our day and age, a lot of people have a hard time understanding that concept. And what I'm really wondering, is how many kids really took the conference to heart. The speakers there were talking about how they shouldn't just go back home from the conference and not learn anything from it, or not take action from it, but I'm wondering just how many people WILL do stuff. And I'm not saying  that everyone was completely changed by this experience, because maybe they weren't. But there certainly was a lot of valuable stuff to be learned there, and taken into practice for people's everyday lives. And what sickens me, is when 2000+ people can go to a conference like that and learn so many things, and 'play the part' there, but then when they return home, it fades away into nothing. Like it was just another past event. I'm not saying everyone acts this way either, but maybe a lot of them do. I mean, I'll see people who just go to church for instance, and they'll act in their Faith and live for God, but when it comes to going back to school, or some other 'outside event,' they won't act anything like who I thought they were.
Maybe it's tough for people because of what is going on in their lives...maybe they've had a life-changing experience that didn't have to do with Christ. That led them to some addiction, or depression, or some mistake that they feel they'll regret for the rest of their lives...but God will always be there for people, whether they want Him to be or not, and He'll continue to push toward those people, but it will ultimately be that person's choice of what to do.
I'm also not saying that I'm going to be perfect in every choice that I make, because I know I'm not. I make mistakes, I falter and fall away from God. And yeah, those times are hard. And it's hard to get back on track, but it's so frustrating to see people call themselves 'Christians,' and then turn right around and act like something completely different.
I'm also not saying that everyone that went to that conference didn't learn something, and won't act in their Faith. Because I truely believe that a good majority of them will. I just hope that everyone at least learned something from it, like I did.

Negative Thoughts

I'm not entirely sure waht has been happening to me lately; maybe it's my lack of social skills that have me confounded, but I'm always thinking negative things. My friends would even tell me that they wish the ycould feel as positively about things that I can, but I feel like I no longer posess that quality anymore. I'm always brooding about how things are sucking or falling apart, or that things won't get better, even though I know things pass and people move forward in life.

I'm always wishing things could be better but I'm never celebrating current situations. And I always doubt that there's something out there for me but I know there is because God holds a plan for everyone. I guess I'm just becoming impatient trying to decipher what God's call for me is. I mean, I feel like He'll call, I'll pick up the phone, and then all I will hear is the steady hum of the disconnected line on the other side. Maybe I'm not supposed to know what my call is yet? But that doesn't entirely make sense since I'm going to be a Senior? It would just be nice to know what direction I should go in, at least. I don't want to be left behind. And maybe it's just something I need to meditate on for a few hours; I just don't want to make a mistake...

Proverbs 19:20-21 says: Listen to instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

I'm also continually getting mixed signs. One day I'll be certain that I want to do Journalism, and then I'll hear somewhere that a college completely got rid of that major because it's a dying career, but then the next day I'll receive college information about an extraordinary media college that specializes in Journalism and such, but then I'll find out that it's a private school that will probably cost a ridiculous amount of money because it's also out of state. Other days I'll be set on being an artist, because there are fantastic in-state schools that I could apply for, and start building a portfolio. But then I get freaked out when I see the reactions on some people's faces when I tell them it might be what I want to do and I become worried because I don't really know what I could do with an art major. So then I worry about after college and wonder where the heck I would get started, and wonder whether or not I could actually support myself out there. So then I wonder if God has something else intended for me after all, because I keep getting mixed signs. And if that's the case, then I hae no idea what He has planned for me after all.

Maybe I'm just thinking on this too much. No, I am thinking on this too much. But it's consuming my everyday thoughts and it seems to be dragging me down because I get worried and confused and disapointed when I don't know what is meant for me, and it's frustrating because it's like a never-ending cycle that keeps stressing me out.

Maybe I have negative thoughts because I can see plainly what other people are capable of, but I can't see what I'm capable of...

Disappointment

I sigh, and slowly reach for the white envelope that is enclosed in my dad's fingers, dreading what could be inside, but hoping also. I feel the paper slide between my fingers, and I grab on tighter, pulling it away from him. At this point, I don't know what to think. I'm not sure if I should hope for the best, or be prepared to face the worst. Turning from my dad, I make my way to my bed, the dread starting to build up within my gut. I take my seat and slowly slide my finger along where the flap meets the back of the mail, and I slowly tear it away, revealing the paper inside. My fingers obviously shaking, I grasp the paper and slide it out. As if it's something that could break at too hard of a touch, I carefully unfold the paper, and the butterflies start to dance in my stomach, worry encompassing my whole being. I glance down at the page, and carefully search what I'm looking for, until I find it...
Along the bottom of the paper are the words: 'AP United States History................................................................................................................................................. 1' I take a deep breath as I hear my dad mutter beside me, "Ouch." The worst part is over. The anticipation has ended.
And yeah. Ouch. Because I stayed up until three in the morning sometimes doing the most excrutiating and time-consuming work that I had ever challenged myself to do before in my life. There were days when I would work myself to tears because the stress would just be too much for me to handle, but I would keep doing. And I know that my parents aren't disappointed in me, because they understand how hard I worked toward this exam, but I really can't say that I'm not disappointed in myself. I really thought that I had figured it out, and that I had grown to a maturity level where I could handle this kind of thing. I mean, I would have been proud of myself if I had even gotten a 2 on the dang thing. Then I would've at least felt like I really achieved something. Except, I couldn't even do that. And I know I should be proud of making the effort in the class, and trying my best, and even taking the exam to begin with, yaddayaddaya...and I know I've learned a lot, and that it was a huge challenge for me. But I feel like I failed. Because I did. And I will move on from this, I just needed to vent about it. And I know more opportunities will come for me in the future for things like this, it's just...embarassing above all, I suppose. I had learned so much in that class, and now I get to return to school and admit to everyone else that took the class that I was the student that got a 1. And I can't help but feel disappointed in myself, because I know there were times that I probably could've pushed myself harder, or done that extra work that was assigned to us, and I hadn't. It's also frustrating to know, that I also went over most of the review stuff that the teacher gave us, in my free time, and a lot of other people hadn't, and they probably gained a way higher score than me. It's just frustrating to know, that I can push myself so hard, and do so much work, and learn so much, but still not be as good as others are, and that makes me feel really stupid sometimes.

I'm sorry I haven't blogged in awhile, and I'm sorry it had to be about this, but it was really something that I needed to get off my chest. And I'm starting to gain ideas, but it's summer, and I'm lazy, so I either quit on the idea, or don't even start it. So, I'll try to blog more...if I can.

Those Three Words

Dearest Mother,
I know a lot of people are doing this kind of thing, posting stuff on Facebook, giving their moms little gifts that will make them happy, so yes, I'll be boring, and follow that trend. :)
You pretty much rock my world. You held me in your tummy for nine months, you cared for me when I was a baby, you helped me when I was a toddler, and you're still here for me today whenever I need you. (And Roger and Ross are getting old and 'not coming home' but I know that even though that's the case, they're still going to need you too).
I know I don't tell you every single day how much I appreciate all that you've done for me in my 'growing up' process, but that's what Mother's Day is for, right? So, I just want to say "Thank you." For everything you've done. You've helped raise me to be the person that I am today, and I will be forever greatful for that. Sometimes I regret not telling you every day how much you mean to me, or how much you mean to this family, but I think you know how much you mean to us. And I couldn't put what I'd mean to say to you in words anyways.
So happy Mother's Day, mom! Keep on being the awesome mom you are, because personally, I think you're the greatest one out there. And even though one day, I'll get old, I'll still need you as much as I need you now. And for now I'll end this with an I Love You. I think those three words sum this up pretty nicely, don't you? ;)

Motivation

Lately, it seems that all my motivation is lost. I feel unfocused in everything I try to think about, I feel worn out, I feel pressure, like I have so much to get done, but I don't want to get anything done.I could just use the excuse that I'm tired, and sure, that could be half the problem...but I don't think that's it.
I feel like if I want to get something done, I have to work ten times as much, and of course, that just wears me down more. And I know a ton of it has to do with stress that is building up, and building up, and building up...but in two weeks, all the hard work will be just about over.
I haven't been able to connect with God for awhile now, and mainly it's because of distractions from all my school activities and projects. And every once and a while I'll think,'Man...I haven't talked to God in awhile.' and it's impossible to do His will if you aren't talking to Him, if you aren't meditating on His word, or learning how to trust Him with everything. So after awhile I shrug and think,'I just don't have the time.' which, is very selfish.
But...it's also true...
I really wish I could sit down for an hour and meditate every day, or read my bible, or talk to God...but I really don't posess that kind of time to give. I can give it to school work, and I can give it to school-related activities...but it doesn't seem very fair that I'm so consumed with work that I can't focus on God. And because of all of this mounting work that I have to do, I just want it to be over, which is why I'm slacking off so much...the end of all this stress is so close yet so far away...
Throughout the day I'll try to remind myself that I need to take some time to pray over things or about things, but it doesn't always happen because there's just SO much going on. If I could have Him literally pat me on the shoulder to get my attention, I'm still not sure of whether or not I would feel that pat right now.

I also realized something else about myself lately: I have been constantly focused on negative things. I have constantly been thinking bad things about people, bad things about myself, and bad things about the future. I'm not looking forward to any of it...but now I realize what I'm doing...and it's so incredibly hard to switch back to looking at everything in a positive way, like I could do before...especially because of the attitudes that I see every day from people...
I feel like everyone is judging me when they look at me, whether they really mean to or not. I feel like everyone can be good to their friends, but they don't really feel they should be good to anyone else. I feel there are too many people who do stupid or harmful things to themselves or to others, and they don't even realize it, or they just flat out don't care. I can think of a few people who actually DO spread their love to others, or extend their friendship to others. It's just really hard to look at things in a positive way, when practically nobody else is. And I know other people shouldn't have to keep me from doing whatever I want, but I'm not sure how many people would BELIEVE the influence that these negative thoughts or feelings have.
I just want to be myself again...I want to have my motivation back...

My Favorite Part

I wrote the title of this blog a long while ago. In fact, looking on it now, I'm not really sure what I had in mind for it...but at the time I did, otherwise I wouldn'tve written the title down...
Maybe I was going to comment on the fact that everybody has a favorite part of a movie, or a favorite part when they hang out with friends. I know my favorite parts in movies are when they make me cry, and I love hanging out with my friends, laughing about stupid things that usually only we know about. My favorite part of the day is when the sun goes down and the stars become visible in the night sky. My favorite part is when families can unite and joke around, spread the love. My favorite part is when I can see couples around public areas, holding hands and being adorable. My favorite part is when I get to connect with God and share Him with others. My favorite part is when I can successfully sing a high note in my music piece. My favorite part is when I do my very best to act out another part on the stage in front of people, and feel so good about myself. My favorite part is when I can be myself in front of people, show people who I really am.

But...my absolute favorite part is when I see people, and how they react when they are touched, themselves, by God. It's absolute beauty. There's peace and there's joy overpowering...it's not something that can be put into words by anyone, but anyone can be one to experience it. And it is the most amazing experience in the world. And the greatest part is...the connection with God doesn't stop. It lives forever, and it's making its way around the world.

Undesired

I wonder how many people feel like they're alone in the wolrd. I wonder how many people suffer from deep pain because they feel like they're being rejected by society. I wonder what drastic measures people will take to make themselves known. And I wonder what drastic measures people might take if they aren't.
Lately, I've felt alone. And not just; meh, there's not any people I really know here that I can really talk to, but like I'm rejected from society. Especially at Highschool. And sure, I've got friends, but for some reason, I haven't been able to really open myself up to anyone. Not like I used to be able to do. I know people out there love me, and I know God loves me. It's just tough sometimes to really feel like they're telling me the truth when they say things like that. At highschool, the only times I really have anyone to talk to is during lunch, and after school at musical rehearsal. I feel like people are too caught up in their lives or their friends, that they don't even realize I need someone too. But then again I feel selfish in saying this, since I haven't really been able to commit to relationships lately. I feel like a horrible friend because I can't focus on things, or I'm uninterested in certain things. And I always wonder why people I've known, or used to be good friends with in the past...why it's so hard for them to just say hi to me. Or maybe they think people say hi to me all the time?
It just feels like everything seems to be falling apart at the worst times possible. The only happiness I feel anymore is during the weekends when I'm spending time with my Lord, and that only lasts for a few days. Then it's back to the regular routine of highschool during the week, of endless hours dragging on, and feeling hurt...or rejected...because everything isn't how it used to be for me. These are just feelings that have been dragging me down, they've been keeping me from enjoying my day, enjoying my week, laughing, and carrying on potential conversations with people. So here I am, trying to let these emotions out I suppose. Now, I'm not saying any of this because I'm going to take drastic measures on myself. I know things that are bad will eventually clear up, it's just taking some time to happen.
There's lyrics by a band that I like that say: "I am often interrupted or completely ignored..." and I guess that's the best way to sum up how I'm feeling lately. I've tried talking to God, but during the week it's always hard to make that contact with Him since that's when everything seems to suck. I also know that half the stuff I'm telling myself is just devilish thought because I know that half the stuff I'm telling myself isn't anywhere close to being true. It's just hard sometimes.
Right now there's a very select few who I know I can definitely turn to in a time of need. I know I have people that I can talk to if I need to talk to someone, but I usually don't. And again, it's back to that holding myself back from people. And I'm not entirely sure why I do it, but I do.

I know, after a time, these feelings will pass. I'm getting closer every day to God and I'm able to pull myself through most of it. I'm working hard to get rid of my bad thoughts, and God is definitely answering my prayers. I just know it will take some time to get through. So for those of my friends that may be reading this, I just want to apologize for the strange way I may have been acting, or not being a complete friend to you. I will be able to again soon. It's just a process I'm learning to fight my way through, and as of late, I'm winning this battle. The Devil is going down.

Child's Play

A thought dawned upon me. Children are accepting of almost everything. They will accept happiness, love, new people, new challenges, discipline, sadness, fun, and they will accept lessons that they have learned. If a mother tells her son to NOT put his hand on the stove, because it's hot, the son, will of course, put his hand on the stove. In return, his hand will get burned and he's learned that it's wrong and it won't happen again.
I started to wonder about how willing, young children, five years of age, could be so accepting of so many things. And then I thought about how God wants us to become like children through Christ and freely give and receive God's love and the love of others. After thinking this over, I wondered why it was so difficult to teenagers and adults to do exactly that: accept people for who they are, accept challenges that come into their lives, accept things in general.
I think a huge part of this not accepting things or people, for teenagers especially, is because all of us have the tendency to judge, even when we aren't thinking about it. Maybe someone looks funny, or acts weird, maybe you've heard strange stories about someone...but why should that mean you shouldn't get to know them for yourself?
Matthew 18:3-4 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." God wants us to be like children, children who can receive the love from Him freely and give, the same way God does, freely.
For me, this was kind of hard to grasp. I mean, we go our whole lives, trying to mature and learn all these new things so that we can 'learn to prosper' in the 'real world' that lays ahead of us. We learn to act like adults, to interact with adults, to do adult things. But, God wants us to act like children? It just...seemed kind of strange.

At church on Saturday, during worship, I got to see what God meant when He wanted us to act like children. There was a young boy, jumping around on the front of the stage, going crazy. He was yelling at the top of his lungs the love that he holds for Christ, he was dancing uncontrollably, and waving his arms all over the place. It was probably one of the most adorable things I had ever seen...and then it clicked. God doesn't want us to worry about what others think about us, He doesn't want us to judge others by the way they look or the way they might seem to act. I remember in elementary school, it didn't matter who you were, you always had friends. Now a days, it doesn't seem like that so much anymore.
God wants us to be like children. He wants us to jump up and down, wave our arms around, shout at the top of our lungs. He wants us to be able to love Him and everyone else in this world uncontrollably and without hesitancy. He wants us to freely receive and freely give to others (we learned how to share in Kindergarten, remember?). He wants us to have so much passion for Him that we can't handle it by ourselves, so we have to spread it to all the other children of God. How amazing is that?

The World Is Crashing Down

Have you ever had one of those days, where everything seems to be falling apart; where everything that could possibly go wrong, is going wrong?
I had one of those days, just this past weekend, actually, and I had a lot of time to think about what happened to me that day...

Looking back, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but at the time, it seemed like my whole world was crashing down on me. It sounds so silly when I explain it now, but here goes, my horrible day:
I slept in late, missing the rummage sale I was supposed to work for, losing the money I could've earned to make it to my next Mission Trip. My mom woke me up at 9:28. In two minutes, I had to be at the Highschool reviewing for AP U.S. History stuff. I got to the school, late, and was exhausted from working on Drama stuff pretty late the night before. During the review session, we took a practice multiple choice exam since the real thing is coming up in a month, and I did absolutely horrible on it. Again. So, that really freaked me out about the whole, taking a huge exam next month that could cost me college credits. I also had to go home and work on homework that I needed to do some catching up on, and on top of it all, my head hurt like no other.

Everything seemed to be tearing me down. I wasn't too happy about any of it occuring, which in turn, made me really upset throughout the day. Now don't worry, I'm getting to my point...
Later that evening, I had the choice, of whether I wanted to go to church or not. I went, but I didn't really expect anything 'good' to happen, since my whole day had sucked already; I wasn't sure if I could take anymore, but I went for it. When I first got there, my mood didn't get much better, and during worship, I definitely wasn't enthusiastic about anything...and in the atmosphere there, something just felt...off.
The pastor took the microphone and stopped the worship for a brief time and he said,"Every day, you're living a battle. I know the worship in this room is going to change in about the next 45 seconds because we're gonna pray to God that we want to reach out to Him, and that the Devil can't drag us down." And from that point on, I kinda had this...hope, I guess you could say. I thought,"You know what? He's right. The Devil has worked his way into my life right now, and I don't want to have it. This is gonna change." and it did. Some people prayed over me, and when they did, I felt pressure from my body being lifted, and I felt light and wonderful, like there was nothing dragging me down from reaching my God anymore. Someone even approached me and told me that God was waiting for me, that He was there, awaiting my return to Him.

That night, after an incredibly long, suckish day, I won my battle. It wasn't easy, but I was able to fight off all my negative thoughts of not wanting to contact God and be there to worship Him, and do exactly that: worship Him.

Best. Dancing. Ever.

This seriously made my day. So I'm sharing it with the rest of the world. Or, whoever reads my blog at least. So, I hope it makes your day too. Nathan Barnatt has some crazy dancing skills. :)

That 'Special Someone'

You know, guys tend to be a really heavy topic on my mind a lot of the time. And I'm pretty positive that I'm not the only one...and I always wonder how guys can feel like girls are the complicated ones. I mean sure, girls are capable of emotions and most girls cause themselves more drama then they can ever handle, but they're the ones who make us think they're going to 'make a move' and then never do. Or they act one way around you, but by the time next week rolls around, they're a completely different person, which makes you wonder if they were ever interested in you at all...
Girls have standards for guys, sure...but in the end, how many of them really matter? I mean I'd love to get a guy who will actually listen to me when I talk to them, someone who can love me (even on my off days), someone who's handsome, can make me laugh, can make me fall for them over and over again by being sweet and romantic, and enjoys a lot of the same things that I enjoy myself.
But maybe in the future, those 'expectations' won't matter because when you find the one you're supposed to be with, maybe they're completely different from who you thought they would be. However, you shouldn't fight against that...you should be happy that there's someone that's meant to be with you.
I gotta say, one of the reasons I really hate movies, is they always have the same kind of romance in it. Either, the guy likes the girl but the girl doesn't like him, but in the end they'll fall in love. Or there's a couple that gets into some kind of argument or predicament and ends up saying,"I'm not gonna be with you anymore!" But then in the next thirty minutes, they're back together. Then again, they are movies...but they do make you wonder. Will love be like how it is in the movies? Will it be better? Will it be completely different? Will there be a 'fairytale' ending to the story? I know I think too much...but this has been on my mind for a really long time, so I decided to blog about it.
I've prayed to God, asking Him if there's someone out there for me. And I've prayed about whether or not I'm even ready for a relationship or not. So far, I haven't gotten much...so I'm assuming it's not something I really need to be worrying about right now in my time of life...but I still can't help but wonder about things. Like how (at least in every relationship I've been in) when you're with someone, it's going great, but then someone gets doubts about things...and from there it just goes downhill. When do you find out they're the one worth fighting for? Or that they're going to fight to keep you, too? I mean, when is it really worth it?

This is what I've come up with:
First of all, just because you don't find that 'special someone' in Highschool or College, doesn't mean that it's the end of the world. 'There's plenty of fish in the sea,' as some might say. But seriously, most Highschool relationships don't last anyways, so why worry about them when there's so much more you could be focusing on? Besides, it gets rid of so much unwanted drama for so many people that just make lives complicated, and nobody likes that.
Second of all, God has a plan. For you, for me, for everyone. He knows when that special person will walk into our lives, and when the time is right, we'll know when we're supposed to be worrying about it, God will make sure of that.
And finally, I think when someone is worth fighting for, you'll know, because they're willing to fight for you in return.

Light the World on Fire

At church on Saturday, everyone was told to 'Light the World on Fire.' To spread God around the world, to receive an encounter with God, become an encounter, and share that encounter with someone else. And a Hebrew word was used that's stuck with me. The Hebrew word for receive is nah'al and when I searched this word up online I got several different results...
to lead or guide to a watering place, bring to a place of rest, refresh
Fighting Pioneer Youth
and what the Pastor said was,"Grasping onto something, taking hold of something..." and I guess all of the definitions make sense...when you're on fire for God, it's not like anything else. It's new...it's peaceful and refreshing...and when you're with God, you're a child at heart: Someone who can freely love, without really thinking about it. And as a child of God, we're fighting to spread Him around, to ignite the rest of the world on fire...to kindle the fire.

To me, Lighting the World on Fire means letting the Holy Spirit work through you, so others can see who Christ is through you...spreading the flame of God all throughout the world...And from there, hopefully it can be spread by them, too. Many a time, people will be on fire for God...but they'll be so into the moment, they'll forget that what people need most is God...He should be shared so that others can feel the most amazing things that you do. So that His love can be spread all over the world; the love so amazing that it sets people's souls on fire for Him. I don't know about you, but I think that's some pretty amazing stuff.
So yeah, it's great to experience God, nothing else is like it. But what about those other people that are in the world that need to experience Him too? He needs to be shared, spread, shown to everyone, because everyone deserves to feel His love.

My Life: Take 2

I feel like I'm transformed every day. I'm learning and growing just like everyone else out there, and I'm learning to trust God more, let Him take control of my life because I certainly don't know what I'm doing when I take the lead...
For the longest time, I felt...alone...lost...trapped in the Wilderness. I felt like I was leaning on God but in a way I knew that it felt like I was giving it too much effort, and then I KNEW I wasn't giving everything up to God. I was too focused on giving things up myself, rather than doing it...it kinda defeated the whole purpose in the first place. I felt lost for a really long time...especially after I lost my best friend...but I knew it was just another bump in the road. I had to climb over it eventually.
I prayed to God and I begged to God to tell me what to do, to give me a sign, send me on the right path again...
After awhile (because you can't always get what you want right away), I felt like I should go back to the Friday-night Youthgroup because I knew I could really feel God whenever I was there praying to Him or just lying on my back in worship. The location for the Youthgroup had changed and my friend told me it was moved to a place called 'Joyland' and I thought,"Hmm...Joyland...sounds kind of interesting..." Well, when I went back, the people who were involved were as welcoming as always (which is probably one of the greatest aspects of the Youthgroup...how much love everyone shows for each other) and I continually started going again. While I was there, I really felt like I belonged, like I could talk about whatever to whoever and it would be kept in complete secrecy. I got drunk in the Holy Spirit for the first time and it's the greatest feeling in the world; it's completely overwhelming and it's PURE JOY.
From Youthgroup I was invited to go to Bible study on Saturday, and I thought maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't...
That Saturday, I woke up late, forgetting about the Bible study and I kinda figured I just wouldn't go; I still had to get ready, get directions, etc. But something was tugging at my gut and telling me to go. So, somehow, I pulled myself together and got to the the Bible study on time and it was the first Bible study I had gone to where I actually learned anything. Afterwards, people were talking about going to church and I had been invited before but I'm gonna be honest, I wasn't really interested in going to a different church; I already had one. But I remember I was sitting there thinking I'd probably just go home and do something pointless like watch TV but again, something was nudging me and I specifically remember thinking,"I could go home, or I could worship my Lord." and just at that moment, someone turned to me and asked,"Are you going to Church?" and I replied,"Yeah. I think I am."
I can most definitely say that going to Joyland is such a unique experience every time I go. Every moment is spent with my Saviour, and it's the weekends that I look forward to because of that. I can spend so much time with my God and not feel ashamed of anything, feel accepted, like it's where I belong. I'm not alone. God answered my prayers. I also find it incredible that after I leave Joyland, I can remain happy for endless amounts of time, and the most amazing thing is...I'm always hungry for more.

Mystery Face

I don't know who anyone is anymore...people keep changing, and it's not how I expected them to change at all. I have NO close relations with my friends anymore, because they're all different and I can't seem to understand the things that they choose to do. I've lost three of my closest friends all in the course of the same year. I'm either not nearly as close as I've been to them, or I lost them alltogether. My life is changing, and it's beginning to emotionally take over me. Right now, I need God more than anything...and it's really hard to find him when I have SO many other things that I feel I need to focus on...
I don't want my friends ruining their lives...but with the choices they're making, and the way they've changed, I don't know for sure, that that's NOT a possibility, and that SUCKS. I feel like I should be the one to take control and say,"No! Don't do that!" and they'd magically understand and everything could just go back to the way it was...but I know that it wouldn't help the situation...I've tried...and I've tried...and I've tried...but all they do is push me away. So what am I supposed to do? Leave them there to make those choices for themselves? Well...that's all their letting me do...and I guess if they want to make those choices, then there's nothing I can do about it...and they'll just have to find out the hard way...
It really sucks, knowing that I can be so close to God, yet none of my once-closest friends, won't even take a chance with Him. It also really sucks knowing that I should be the one to show them to God, but they won't accept Him, and maybe that's my fault for not showing Him to them in the right way, or maybe they really just don't want anything to do with Him. Which is also, really upsetting. When my friends tell me about the things they do, I have no idea whether I should yell, fight, cry, or feel sympathy for them...because nothing makes sense when I realize that my friends aren't the people I once thought them to be...because they're all changing.
I want to be there for them, but I know I can't if all I feel is hurt, and confused, when they tell me about the things they've done. I can honestly say I want nothing to do with them...but I also try to remember that people make mistakes, and then it becomes the past...but I don't know how to get it across to them that what they're doing isn't healthy, or smart, or...right for them...
I've been praying...but so far I haven't gotten an answer, and I can't say I'm not getting impatient, because I am...I just don't want their lives to be harder then it has to be...and I really hope that one day they find God...because He's the only one that can fulfill anybody's life...

Letter To A Certain 'You'

I just want to start off by saying the intent of this letter isn't to rebuild our friendship. I just felt that if I didn't ever say anything about this matter that I might not ever be able to forgive the whole situation and move on from it. It's starting to drag me down. I can't go a day without thinking about this whole stupid mess and all the different conflicting emotions that I can't name, because they keep colliding into confusion. No. I want to apologize. There's part of me that was so unbelievably in denial of the situation, so completely distressed, and unbelievably hurt that that part of me, didn't want to fix anything. However, the other part of me feels miserable that it let such a good friendship down, when maybe I should have stayed strong throughout the situation and fought through the pain and distrust that I built towards you to heal the problem. But it was a losing battle for that side. I didn't want to fight, because I didn't care that I was hurt. I didn't care that I was hurting you. So I'm sorry for not standing up and taking control. I wanted you to feel the trust you had in me die like I felt for you. I wanted you to feel the same pain that I felt. I didn't want to be the only one that suffered.
I realize now it was completely and utterly selfish. And I didn't even grasp the reality of it until just recently. So I apologize. And I forgive you for telling me sorry so many times...but it doesn't mean I can just build that relationship with you again that we once had. It would be utterly impossible; because of the fact that I feel I can't freely give you my trust like I once could. It was bad enough that you would turn on me, but to lie behind my back for who knows how long, acting like a complete and total hypocrite...I will never forget. So I'm also sorry things turned out the way they did. And I'm not saying it's your fault. I have blame for it too because I didn't have the courage to end what you did. And I thank you for that.

How Does It Feel?

How does it feel to lost a best friend? How does it feel when that best friend was the only person you really felt you could rely on, but your trust was broken and couldn't easily be fixed? How does it feel to be alone or abandoned? How does it feel to be rejected and alone because of who you are, or because you feel you're completely ignored or people keep talking over you? How does it feel, when nobody seems to miss you? How does it feel when people don't even notice you're gone? How does it feel when your family seems to be falling apart? How does it feel when everyone keeps yelling at each other or trying to change each other? How does it feel to be judged? How does it feel when people you don't even know look at you with complete disgust because of the way you look, or the way you seem to act, or the color of your skin, or the type of Religion you are part of?

Joshua 1:9 says: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Whenever I feel troubled or down, like the weight of the world has been crushing on my shoulders and there's no escaping it, I turn to my Lord. He's there for me without fail, whether He takes His time with answering my prayers, or whether He's yelling the answer in my ear...sometimes I have a hard time catching what it is He wants from me. It's easier for most people to sit down and take time to pour out their honest heart to God, than to listen for the answer. Most people take all the time in the world to sit and talk to God, and figure out what it is they're supposed to do right then and there. But have you ever taken time to sit still and listen for the answer from Him? It's not easy. But it's worth it.

How do you feel when you help somoene? How do you feel when you take time out of your own life, for the sake of someone else, to change their world? How does it feel to make someone happy? How does it feel when you see that smile spread across their face and the joy come to their eyes when you give them that simple compliment, say "Hey" or smile their way? How does it feel to worship the Lord? How does it feel to fill yourself with His love and Grace, to fall to your knees and want nothing more in the world to give your heart to Him and cry out in joy? How does it feel when you're loved? How does it feel when you know you have a warm embrace around you no matter what, and someone is always holding your hand?

God can be there to love you, and carry you through your worst times. And if He doesn't answer you, don't give up, because He always has something to say. You just have to listen.

Thrown on Paper

I'm just going to be blunt and put it out there; I love art. It's amazing, and so much passion can be involved. I've been working on it little by little this year, and I've been, I hope, improving my skills one piece at a time.
What I really love about art, is that you don't have to hold back who you are when you do it. Each piece of work is different, and I find that when I'm in times of trouble or really deep feeling, it's one of the ways that I can *really* express myself to other people. It's easier for me to draw something out on paper, then talk to someone and tell them my deepest pains.
So, with that being said, I'm probably going to start posting my art on here, just so you, reading this, can get a taste of who I am.
The peice on here that I've posted is a sketch for something bigger that I'm working on. But here's something to start with. :)
